Health Fair
Akanksha Sharma – Health Fair Coordinator Akanksha [dot] Sharma [at] utsouthwestern [dot] edu
Akanksha is a MS4 who has been involved with UtS since her first year. Starting with co-chairing and revitalizing the domestic violence awareness booth in her first year, Akanksha continued on and took additional leadership as co-chair of the health fair. She now serves in an advisory capacity, assisting the health fair committee. Akanksha believes strongly in the mission and vision of UtS and believes it to be her privilege to be able to be a part of this worthy effort. She is passionate about healthcare for all, education, and outreach.
Akanksha will be starting residency in neurology this summer, and is interested in international health, infectious diseases and critical care. When not working in the hospital or in meetings, Akanksha loves to travel, knit, crotchet, read, spend time with her family and friends, bug Suzi in her office, eat delicious things, and cuddle with her shihtzu Imli.
Kristen Carter – Health Fair Co-Chair kristen [dot] carter [at] utsouthwestern [dot] edu
Kristen is not a native Texan but she came here as fast as she could after making several uneventful stops on the way. She eventually settled in the quaint town of Plano, TX and then went a few hours south after her high school graduation to attend Texas A&M University, which she was brainwashed eventually came to love. She learned many important things during her time in Aggieland like how to yell in unison, how to swing an axe and how to count to 11 without using her fingers and/or toes. She then came back home to Dallas to attend medical school at UT Southwestern, where she continues to support her beloved aggies from afar. She also enjoys long walks on the beach prior to a night dive and baking.
Jared Morphew – Health Fair Co-Chair jared [dot] morphew [at] utsouthwestern [dot] edu
Jared was born and raised in the “city that’s twice as nice,” Texarkana, TX. At the age of 18, he crossed the border to attend the University of Arkansas, but after four years, the dt’s (delirium Texans) became too much to bear. Thus, he decided to make his way back to Texas to pursue his dream career in medicine. Jared has really enjoyed his medical school experience, where he is gaining the much needed expertise in sending emails, volunteering, Netflixing, and mastering Sporcle trivia. He is excited to add chairing the Health Fair of United to Serve to the list of study distractions and looks forward to working with all the wonderful committee members and volunteers this year!
Astrud Villareal – Health Fair Co-Chair astrud [dot] villareal [at] utsouthwestern [dot] edu
In her sleep, Astrud dreams of one day dunking a basketball but alas, at slightly under five feet, this dream might only be feasible with the help of trampolines. She developed her love for the sport in the Philippines where she lived until her family moved to Dallas where she played point guard for her high school. She loved the city so stayed there for college and is still there now for graduate school. A biology major and human rights minor at SMU, this Apple fanatic loves to travel and hopes to visit all the continents one day. In her spare time, she plays the drums and seeks out thrill adventures like freefalling and bungee jumping. She is excited to work on the website and get involved with more aspects of United to Serve!
Sam Sirignano – Health Fair Education Management samantha [dot] sirignano [at] utsouthwestern [dot] edu
Sam Sirignano is from a small town in North Texas best known for its NASCAR racetrack, and has always loved her state too much to leave. After a nerdy, science and book-filled childhood she left home to go just two hours south to Waco. She graduated from Baylor with a degree in math hoping to one day solve the Millennium Prize problem on turbulence. While working on that, she moved on to medical school at UT Southwestern. She loves baking, running, playing with her dog, and Facebooking when she should be studying. Sam is excited to get more involved with United to Serve and help with Health Fair this year!
