Health Awareness Program
Sandeep Mehta – Health Awareness Project Survey/Data Collection sandeep [dot] mehta [at] utsouthwestern [dot] edu
My name is Sandeep, and I am a 3rd year medical student with clinical interests in outpatient care and patient education. I grew up in Temple, TX and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin, where I worked as a Resident Assistant for on-campus housing and volunteered as a tax accountant providing credits and refunds to low-income earners. Through these experiences, I found a passion for simplifying complex ideas and compiling resources so that they may be better used by the community, and I have channeled these interests into the Health Awareness Program. I am excited to be a part of the committee, where I can help our indigent population understand and manage chronic “silent killers” such as hypertension, diabetes, and other risk factors cardiovascular disease. I hope to simplify the process of identifying and accessing doctors’ clinics and thereby help our patrons establish a medical home to manage chronic disease. Despite my busy days, I enjoy spending time with friends, learning about new things, and findings creative ways to incorporate mobile technology into our lives to make us healthier and more productive individuals.
Rima Shah – Health Awareness Project Co-Chair rima [dot] shah [at] utsouthwestern [dot] edu
Rima is currently a second year medical student with an interest in Neurology. Rima is from Scranton, Pennsylvania (yes, that Scranton!) and is a newly minted Texan with a passion for dancing and singing. At UTSW, Rima is a member of the Lymph Notes, UT Southwestern’s premiere a capella group, and is an officer for the Student Interest Group in Neurology.
Krishna Sajja – Health Awareness Project Co-Chair krishna [dot] sajja [at] utsouthwestern [dot] edu
My name is Krishna and I am a second year medical student at UT Southwestern. Writing your bio is like answering the toughest interview question – “Tell me about yourself.” Well, I was born near Dallas and grew up near Houston so I’ve been a Texan all my life. But the weather is perfect for the one sport I watch and play – tennis. I also play the piano, enjoy music and movies like anyone else, and of course, have a palate for good foods. I’ve always had a passion for science so I chose to major in Biochemistry at Rice University before I joined UTSW. I became involved with United to Serve’s Health Awareness Program because of its impact on health fair-goers even after the fair, to keep up my Spanish, and above all, why not do something for one of the largest health fairs in Dallas?
Katherina Avila – Health Awareness Project Co-Chair
Kati is currently a second year medical student at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. Her interests are family medicine, community medicine, and geriatrics. She is currently a co-officer of the Family Medicine Interest Group and also enjoys volunteering as a class coordinator for FIT for Health.
